Water offers one of the best sensory play activities children can experience on a Natural Playground, so providing water is critical for both play and drinking. Filling and emptying containers improves physical dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Playing with water (or water/sand/dirt) challenges minds as children explore why objects sink or float, how to move water, how to dam it up, how to drink it, wash hands in it, splash it, sprinkle it, make bubbles with it, and float things in it, and how to make sand shapes and mud pies. Children learn concepts such as empty/full, before/after, shallow/deep, and heavy/light, and will also learn new words, such as funnel, surface, drain, sink, float, dam, splash, sparkle, sprinkle, flow, wet, volume, dry, damp, evaporate, pour, fill, sopping, and strain. Water is a must, and we provide several options!
