OUTDOOR NATURAL LEARNING, PLAY, AND SENSORY AREA
The Grand Opening Ceremony for the Outdoor Natural Learning, Play and
Sensory Area was held April 15, 2011 at 10:00 am.
We are very excited about our natural outdoor learning, play and sensory area.
This special project here at the McCarthy Teszler School has been in the
development phase for two years. The unique design of this area, developed by
the Natural Playgrounds Company in Concord, NH, encompasses the five senses
that are essential for the education of our students.
The Natural Playground will be utilized as an instructional area, therapy venue,
and outdoor play area for all of our students ages three to twenty-one.
The design is accessible for our students in wheelchairs and includes raised bed
gardens, a raised fish pond, raised sand and water play areas, and a wheelchair
accessible swing.
A few of the many varied features includes two accessible slides, a sound garden,
hammocks, amphitheater, tree house, sensory gardens, labyrinth, analemmatic
(interactive) sun dial, picnic shelter, basketball court, and art area.
The Natural Playground is beautifully landscaped and will be enjoyed by the staff
and students for many years to come. We look forward to sharing this experience
during our grand opening celebration which will be announced in the near future.
The Natural Playgrounds Companies design and build Natural Playgrounds
throughout the US and Canada, and manufacture natural play and learning
elements in their 6500 square foot plant in Bow, NH. |
